The common basilisk likes to hang out along rivers and creeks, but they also climb well. Very well.

One morning my son Ian and I were sitting on the couch in the open living area of El Fenix (my lovely treehouse) when Ian pointed at the tree that grows through this room. Mom, look! was followed a second later by a strange cry even for a teenager, as the very large male basilisk that had caught his attention leapt from the tree onto Ian's shoulder! More commonly this particular lounge lizard suns himself at the edge of the deck, where he can retire onto the tree if the humans are being annoying.
Great story @Fiona 🤣. I'm sure if I asked Ian for his version of the story, it would be more of a manly grunt than 'strange cry'. Looking forward to more stories 😀
@Fiona What a great story and experience! El Fenix was the very first home we rented at Finca and where we fell in love with the community! That couch in your open living room was our favorite spot to sit! Also, we loved seeing the bats on the screen in the bathroom. So fun to watch them fly off every evening to find food! We haven't met yet, but at some point in the next couple years I hope we will. My husband Jon and I just purchased Lot #32 for our future new home and are looking forward to being part of the community!
Thanks Angie! I'm glad your experience at El Fenix was so good that you are joining the community! I hope to meet you in the not-too-distant future.
