Meet the owners...
Fiona A. Reid has been leading nature tours since 1986, showing ecotourists the mammals and other wildlife of diverse lands from Brazil to Indonesia, Alaska to Venezuela and of course - Costa Rica.
An accomplished writer and artist, Fiona is the author and illustrator of A Peterson Field Guide to Mammals of North America.
Fiona has written and/or illustrated numerous other guides, including 'A Field Guide to the Mammals of Central America and Southeast Mexico', 'Bats of Trinidad and Tobago', 'The Wildlife of Costa Rica, a Field Guide', 'The Golden Guide to Bats of the World', 'Bats of Papua New Guinea', 'Mammals of the Neotropics' (volumes 1-3), and several children’s books.
Fiona is also a Departmental Associate in Mammalogy at the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at the Royal Ontario Museum, in Toronto, Canada. Fiona is also President of Halton/North Peel Naturalist Club in Georgetown, Ontario.
Return to nature at this cozy, split-level, treetop getaway tucked away in the lush jungles of Costa Rica's Southern Zone. This Finca Bellavista home is owned by a mammalogist, naturalist, and author who has worked as a tour guide around the globe for over 30 years. Kick back and take in the rainforest canopy view from the furnished
balcony, prepare meals in the kitchenette, or just relax at home and enjoy the peace and quiet, broken only by the sound of tropical birds and the nearby waterfall. Please note this treehouse is a 10-15 minute hike from basecamp, pack light!
Slip into your hiking boots and hit the network of improved trails that will take you to tended gardens, plunging waterfalls, and breathtaking vistas. When the sun sets, these same trails transform, and guided night hikes will let you get a glimpse of a variety of nocturnal creatures.
And not far from this rental is Playa Blanca, a serene, crushed coral beach on the Golfo Dulce where you can rent a kayak , enjoy the scenery, or do a little fishing.
El Fenix is situated on the green trail - this is not a road! The steps can be steep and challenging, we highly recommend bringing comfortable boots (wellies) for a better experience.
You can read and discover more about El Fenix via it's personal profile within 'The Fusion Forum'. Get real time updated information, answers from the community and Fiona herself. The ability to ask questions on the forum requires membership to the website - it's free, easy and totally worth it!
About your booking...
The Fusion Home is not a property management company and takes no responsibility for your stay at Finca Bellavista. We are assisting our fellow neighbours by providing a booking platform - it is your responsibility to make sure you have read and understood all the information found through 'The Fusion Forum' as well as reviewing all information once the booking is made. If you have questions, please ask them in the forum.
Once you have confirmed and submitted your dates, you will have 24 hours to review all the information / cancelation policy / liability waivers etc before payment is required. If payment is not received within 24 hours, your selected dates will automatically be released.
we're a community!
The Finca Bellavista community concept was founded in 2006 by founders Erica Andrews and Mateo Hogan following a chance site visit. At the time, the 62-acre property was being marketed for sale as a timber harvest site...(for more info regarding the history of FBV, please click here)
Unfortunately, due to reasons outside of the community's control, Finca Bellavista operations ceased in the beginning of 2020 (a year I'm sure you all will remember). As such, traditional past activities such as ziplining, e-biking and food and beverage services are not operational.
It's not all bad news...as the homes within the community are privately owned, the owners of these incredible houses have come together to keep the spirit of Finca Bellavista alive!
You can still explore the property, waterfalls, trails and other homes (all at your own risk of course).
The majority of the staff at Finca Bellavista (you can meet them here) have been involved since the inception of the community back in 2006. In an effort to keep those that want to stay on employed, residents and owners are working together in an effort to keep things as normal (our normal, not your normal) as possible.
You can still receive massages from Hannia (now in your very own rental), a night-hike from Bryan (with an escort home) and authentic Costa Rican meals prepared by the same crew as before (now delivered).
All units have the needed facilities to cook but please be sure to double check your home has power/electricity. You can find all the relevant information you need via 'The Fusion Forum' in general or by investigating each homes personal profile (you can even ask the owners questions directly).
The Fusion Home is proud to be able to assist the community at this time by market these amazing homes on our website - we love all our neighbors. Please be sure to view all information through The Fusion Forum before booking.
work exchange program
Calling all ewoks! El Fenix is currently available to rent using the work exchange program. This exciting new program will incorporate most of the old volunteer program only instead of all cramming in the bunkhouse, you can now stay in the private homes.
In exchange for general community based duties (and some personal ones based on the home you select), El Fenix can offer a heavily reduced weekly rental fee. Please visit the 'volunteering at FBV' category for more information.
Please use the calendar above to check what dates are available, the community requires a 1 week minimum commitment and certain requirements need to be adhered too.
Please be 100% sure before booking as given that potential dates will be taken away from paying guests, the booking will be non-refundable.
